? how much can you use him? >> president clinton has been an enormous ally for us and asset. two weekends back he was coming in the next day in pennsylvania, and colorado, and people remember that he was a president that came in when the economy was tough, and by the end of his eight years the economy was going well. remember, he and president reagan both in their first mid terms had approval ratings that were sim to where president obama's are right now, but president clinton did so many things to get that economy that was challenged climbing again, and i know president obama looks at his job and feels like it's basically the feel job, take an anemic economy and have it grow stronger, and deal with the deficits over the course of his presidency. there is much to emlate. the good news is, we had a wake-up call earlier in the year. none of the candidates have been running complacently. they have been running scared. for as much concerns people have about the democrats, look at the republican approval rating in the polls. this is not a popular republican party right now. >> some ma

federal investigators this morning and joins you now -- and joins us now with this live report. >> reporter: good morning, tori. yes, it's been almost a week since this fireball and explosion and fire here in san bruno. there are still so many questions. the ntsb is out here this morning. we're getting more information about where this investigation is headed. key among the question is how did this start, obviously and why did it burn so long? let's talk about the cause. the ntsb has been asking for anyone to come forward if they smelled gas in the days leading up to the explosion. there have been about 90 e- mails sent to the ntsb. but the ntsb said they only had one person who smelled gas and that was two or three weeks before this happened. if they didn't smell gas, that would be a clue. >> if people smell gas in advance, that suggests a failure, where gas is coming out and people smell it. that's a different kind of failure than a catastrophic failure. that would help us determine the cause of this explosion. that's why that's so crucial to us. >> reporter: there's also the

found two bodies there. they are telling us those bodies were chopped up. they are believed to be the women who had not been seen since wednesday. he had apparently either stayed at the home as a tenant or guest and there is another missing person connected to this case. 35-year-old frederick salis is the son of 73-year-old ricardo salis of hercules. he was found beaten to death in his home saturday allegedly by valdemoro. we have a reporter headed to vallejo and we'll have more on this story at 5:30. >>> in other news the condition of fremont police officer shot in oakland last week has improved after another surgery. yesterday's surgery on 39-year- old todd young was successful. his condition upgraded to serious but stable. the shooting suspect is still in jail in san diego. that is 20-year-old andrew barrientos. he is now charged with attempted murder. he is expected to be arraigned in alameda county next tuesday. >>> we are starting the third month without a state budget. lawmakers ended their session last night after debating two budget plans. governor schwarzenegger sa
